Allen "Million Mile Al" LaFortune was a rider's rider, reportedly never owning any other form of transportation than Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Born Oct. 17, 1931 in Oconto, Wis., LaFortune used his motorcycles for transportation and never bowed to the practicality of having a car or truck, instead using his bike to haul his boat and a camper. By 1998 he had covered a million miles by motorcycle.
He took his last motorcycle ride just six days before his death. He died Aug. 27, 2002 at the age of 70. He was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2003.
