Geoff Fox

INDUCTED: 2009

Started Fox Racing.
Popularized the Fox Head logo.
A pioneer in casual and protective gear.

Geoff Fox, with Moto-X Fox Inc., gave the world the Fox head logo, and launched one of the most ubiquitous brands in motocross history.

In 1965, Fox was introduced to the sport of motocross, and he passionately followed European motocross and equipment manufacturers. In 1969 he moved his young family west to California to teach physics at the University of California, Santa Clara. Once there, he got to know the parts department manager at a local motorcycle dealership. The two often rode together, and six months later became partners in the dealership. One of Fox’s first successful products was a self-published English version of the service manual for the popular CZ motorcycles. Fox completely disassembled a CZ and photographed every individual part, creating his own manual and eventually selling thousands of copies. Fox sold his share of the dealership in 1973, and he started Moto-X-Fox as a national accessories distributor in February 1974.

When the suspension revolution of the mid 1970s surfaced, Fox was at the forefront. He helped develop the first third-party rebuild kit for Koni shocks. Then, working with his brother Bob, Fox developed and sold Fox-branded suspension technology in 1975 that further established the Fox name. Determined to show that his products were superior to those of the competition, Fox created the privately owned professional motocross team, Team Moto-X Fox, in 1977.

Team Moto-X Fox racers wore handmade apparel, and it was a huge hit with other riders and fans. Fox soon reorganized his business to become a major supplier of high-quality motocross gear. In the ensuing years, Fox-sponsored riders, including Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart, won more than 40 National Motocross and Supercross championships. Today, the Fox head logo is one of the most recognized apparel logos in the world.

Tom White, AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum board member and owner of The Early Years of Motocross Museum, said " Geoff Fox's state-of-the-art products and designs have continued to lead, not only the motorcycle market, but the entire action and motorsports industries, for the last 30 years. The list of action-sports racers and athletes who have been associated with the Fox-head brand includes the true greats of their disciplines."

Geoff Fox was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2009.
